EYFS reforms 2021

Today (18th February 2021) The DFE have released the latest draft version of the reformed, reviewed and quite frankly rewritten statutory EYFS framework for September 2021.  The DFE are asking for your thoughts on the additions in red, with the argument that everything else is already decided and has been part of the consultation. This said I am a little unsure when we all fedback that having the Reception Baseline Test featured in a STATUTORY document setting out care, learning and development was needed? Answers on a postcard to that one!

Please read the letter sent to the DFE by Keeping Early Years Unique in response to one of these planned changes, which indicates a significant change from previous versions: the reference to a non statutory guidance document within a statutory framework.

We contacted the DFE back in January with our concerns when we first became aware of the plans and await a full response.

Here are our concerns...

I am extremely concerned about the mention in statutory guidance to use the non- statutory guidance development matters to shape eyfs curriculum. I strongly believe schools should be able to use a variety of guidance to shape a curriculum that suits their school community. It MUST be made clear that Develipment Matters is a NON- Statutory guidance.

We should not be forced to use one document - one size does not fit all. This document is not sufficiently reliable.
